Kardinia Rotary Club has had a long relationship with the Northern Bay College (NBC) Family Learning Centre. In recent years we have assisted with the development of an interactive childrens garden at the centre including trees, garden beds and a chicken coop. In the last 2 years COVID has significantly impacted our ability to keep involved but with the relaxation of restrictions we have entered into an arrangement to provide regular maintenance of the garden.
Saturday 4 June 2022 was a beautiful, sunny, crisp winter’s day – perfect for a day in the garden.  The children’s garden and surrounds at the Family Learning Centre was the  target area. Tree trimmers, loppers, pruners and secateurs in hand and trusty wheel barrow ready to go, and the jobs were tackled with great ‘expertise’ and energy.
Garden jobs included winter tree pruning, preparation of the veggie garden beds for next season crop and general weeding – all kept this A-team busy for a good 3 hours, including our essential morning tea break.
A sincere thankyou to those five eager KC Rotarians, Helen, John, Chris, Vici and Graham, who gave up their Saturday morning to brave the winter chill, ready to blitz the garden and work schedule. (see pictures of the team at work in the photo album).

This is an ongoing collaborative Club activity each month. We would love to extend an invitation to all Rotary members to join this seriously social gardening group and invite members of other local Rotary Clubs as well as the Rotoract Geelong group for a morning of fun, connection and fellowship. Our next Gardening morning is planned for mid-July at the same venue, Northern Bay College Family Learning Centre 25 Goldsworthy Rd., Corio.
