For the last 3 years the Kardinia Rotary Club, with support from District 9780 grants, has supported a Nursing Scholarship program at the Mvumi Hospital in the Dodoma district of Tanzania. At our meeting on September 2nd we had the privilege of having Doctors Angela and Brian Savage join us from the UK via Zoom.
Angela and Brian have worked in Africa for many years and in 2011 met Gordon and Althea Abraham at St Johns University. Angela is a nurse by training and works as nursing instructor whilst Brian is an opthalmologist. Angela in particular was instrumental in working with the Hospital to establish this revolving scholarship fund, whereby students who could not otherwise afford to study, are provided with funding support, through a loan, and then contracted to work at the hospital until they have been able to pay off their loan. This enables the funds to be reused on a continuous basis.
